Set Up your Account on Mac Mail
From HostBaby Wiki
To set up your account on Mac Mail, go to:
Mail > Preferences > Accounts
In the lower left-hand corner, you will see Plus (+) and Minus (-) symbols.
Click on the Plus (+) symbol to ADD an account, which will take you to the Account Setup Wizard:
- Under Account Type - select POP or IMAP (see here for an explanation of the difference between the two)
Note: Mac Mail's latest Snow Leopard version does not show the POP/IMAP option and sets up as IMAP by default.
For Snow Leopard POP Account: When setting up a new account, enter your email address and password, but before pressing create, press and hold the Option key (you may have to click outside the field boxes to enable this function). You will notice the "Create" button becomes "Continue"
- Account Description - type whatever you like that will help you remember which account this is.
- Email Address - type your FULL email address
Then click Continue.
On the next screen:
- Under Incoming Mail Server - yourdomain.com (replacing yourdomain.com with your actual domain)
You actually shouldn't need to include the (www) though it may work either way.
- Under Username - put your FULL email address ( so you@domain.com and not just 'you' )
- Under Passord - put the password you set when you created the email account
Then click Continue.
It will verify that these settings are correct so far, then forward you to the outgoing mail server section.
On that screen:
Under Outgoing Mailserver - If you've already got accounts in Mac Mail, it will give you a drop down. Select www.domain.com (replacing domain.com with your actual domain.) If not, enter:
www.domain.com (replacing domain.com with your actual domain.)
Check Use Authentication
Make sure your user name (full email address) and password are correct!
Then click Continue -- confirm the info and you're done!
